A bit about us...

The Oklahoma Saxophone Ensemble is a community group open to all high school, collegiate, and local saxophonists and educators throughout the state of Oklahoma. Dedicated to advancing music for the saxophone ensemble, the group performs a wide variety of music including original compositions, transcriptions, pop, jazz,

and newly written contemporary works.​​

​Season 3 begins on

January 28, 2026! â€‹

The ensemble rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:30pm at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, Oklahoma City University.

No audition is required to join! 

There are no fees or dues to participate in the ensemble.

Open to all saxophonists aged 14+.

The Oklahoma Saxophone Ensemble is hosted and sponsored by the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University.

The 212,000-square-foot Bass School of Music is home to 143 Steinway pianos, three theaters, a recital hall and dedicated music library. The Bass Music Center, completed in 2006, incorporates advances in sound isolation in its 60 practice rooms, 40 teaching studios, seven high-tech music labs, and six ensemble rehearsal rooms. Dr. Joshua Heaney

Dr. Joshua Heaney is a saxophonist and educator based in Oklahoma City whose performances and research have taken him to China, Italy, Switzerland, and throughout the United States. Praised as “a sparkling and emotionally charged elixir of sound” (WGTE Morning Classics), Dr. Heaney appears regularly as a concerto soloist, most recently with the Harbin Symphony, Oklahoma City University Wind Ensemble, and Missouri State University Wind Ensemble. An active orchestral saxophonist, he routinely performs with the OKC Philharmonic and Oklahoma Chamber Symphony, with previous engagements including the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Lima Symphony, Macon Symphony, and the Eastern Music Festival Pops. Recognized for his contributions to contemporary music, Dr. Heaney has commissioned and premiered more than 50 works by leading composers such as Augusta Read Thomas, Marilyn Shrude, Viet Cuong, and many others. His performances have been featured at major festivals and conferences including SoundNOW, BG New Music Festival, SHE: Festival, Indiana State University Contemporary Music Festival, North American Saxophone Alliance, and the World Saxophone Congress.

Dr. Joshua Heaney serves as Saxophone Instructor and Recruitment Coordinator at Oklahoma City University’s Bass School of Music.
