A bit about the
Oklahoma Saxophone Ensemble
The Oklahoma Saxophone Ensemble is a community group open to all high school, collegiate, and community saxophonists in OKC and central Oklahoma region. Dedicated to advancing music for the saxophone ensemble, the group performs a wide variety of music including original compositions, transcriptions, pop, jazz, and newly written contemporary works.
The ensemble meets once per week on Wednesdays at 6:00pm at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, Oklahoma City University.

The first rehearsal of the 2024 season will be on January 24, 2024.
No audition is required to join!
There are no fees or dues to participate in the ensemble.
The Oklahoma Saxophone Ensemble is hosted and sponsored by the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University.

The 212,000-square-foot Bass School of Music is home to 143 Steinway pianos, three theaters, a recital hall and dedicated music library. The Bass Music Center, completed in 2006, incorporates advances in sound isolation in its 60 practice rooms, 40 teaching studios, seven high-tech music labs, and six ensemble rehearsal rooms. We are an All-Steinway School and a fully accredited member of the National Association of Music Schools since 1944.
Meet the Director
Dr. Joshua Heaney
Saxophone Instructor & Recruitment Coordinator
Oklahoma City University
Dr. Joshua Heaney is a concert saxophonist seeking novel expression, storytelling, and human connection through contemporary music. He has commissioned and premiered over 40 works, collaborating with distinguished composers such as Augusta Read Thomas, Marc Mellits, Viet Cuong, and many others. Joshua’s music and research have taken him to Italy, Switzerland, and throughout the United States at regional and national engagements. Described as, “a sparkling and emotionally charged elixir of sound” (Morning Classics with Mary Claire Murphy), Joshua has been featured as a soloist with the Keene State University Concert Band, Heidelberg University Symphonic Band, Atlanta Chamber Collective, Georgia State University Wind Ensemble, among others. He has performed an orchestral saxophonist with the OKC Philharmonic, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Lima Symphony, Macon Symphony, and Eastern Music Festival Pops.
​Dr. Heaney serves as Saxophone Instructor & Recruitment Coordinator at Oklahoma City University’s Wanda L. Bass School of Music. During the summer, he teaches saxophone at New England Music Camp and the internationally renowned Frederick L. Hemke Saxophone Institute.
